Marcia performs Mamlok with soprano Lucy Shelton
October 23, 2013, Symphony Space
Ursula Mamlok at 90 was an event that celebrated the life and work of this important composer, who is a long-time friend and colleague, and was herself present for the occasion. Don Isler writes:
The earliest written works on the program were the Four German Songs (1958) based on poems of Hermann Hesse, performed by the well-known soprano, Lucy Shelton, and Marcia Eckert, a very fine pianist. They got every ounce of expressivity out of this music. The third song, Schmetterling (Butterfly), was particularly delightful.

Liam Kaplan performs Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier, Book I - Complete
September 28, 2013, Mannes College The New School for Music
Congratulations to Liam on his stunning performance of this difficult work, which inspired a standing ovation. Don Isler writes:
This was a program fit for an intellectual heavyweight with the stamina of a marathoner, and Mr. Kaplan did not disappoint. There were at least two other impressive things worthy of mention. One, that he played the whole thing (two hours of music) from memory. The other is that he is fifteen years old.

September 21, 2013, Steinway Hall Rotunda

Seventeen-year-old Hannah Kulis impressed this listener as a pianist who already has the makings of a fine Chopin pianist. She plays expressively, has a wide dynamic range, understands rhythmic freedom without being undisciplined, and played some parts of the work particularly well, such as getting just the right mood at the beginning of the D-Flat Major section.
